Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the features of US apartment remodeling and evaluate the effects of remodeling acitivies through the surveys and interviews with the selected property managers. Major research findings are as follows. First, remodeling activities in the US apartment housing can be identified as the two primary categories such as remodeling of apartment buildings and remodeling of apartment sites. These remodeling acitivities in the US apartment sites have been conducted consistantly and decided by professional management groups. Second, remodeling activities have been done for improving site amenities. Third, instead of rebult, rehabed apartment properties have been possible by means of apartment site remodeling. Fourth, it was fugured out that the primary purpose of apartment remoldeing is to have structually-safe residential enviroments for residents. Also, it has been an important purpose to provide technology-friendly or environment-freindly residential communities for people. Based on the above characteristics, we found that apartment remodeling would eventually lead residents to have life sustainability in their current places.
