Abstract Along with rapid expansion of territory, progress of commerce was an essential part for stability of the Islam nation. Trades between Europe and Asia formed Silk Road, and through these trades commerce was rapidly developed. In this era, the "Great Merchant Trade" and the Caravanserai architecture, which provides them with the space they need, started to be developed. Regardless of a nation or a region, Caravanserai was constructed in a way that was similar in style. However, from the Ottoman era, the Caravanserai in Cairo, Egypt started to be constructed in a differentiated way. This was Wakala. One of the most distinguishing characteristic of Egypt's Caravanserai (Wakala) is that it was designed to emphasize the feature as the residense than other kinds of Caravanserai. This analysis is to study the feature and the form of the Wakala in Cairo, Egypt, and especially to learn of the characteristics of the Caravanserai through studying the Wakala in the Ottoman dynasty. Also, it is intended to remind the historical value of the Wakala and consider how to preserve and utilize the existing Wakala's.
