Abstract This study investigates the road of Jongmyo, such as the relation between the road and memorial services, the material and type of th road, and visual characteristics. Results of study is summarized as followings.
First, the road of Jongmyo is a place of march that is precedent step of memorial services. The road is sorted into God's road, king's road, ritual officiant's road. Each lane has several sections, which is presented various type.
Second, the road of Jongmyo is divided into white bakseok road and black jeondol road. Bakseok's road do part guiding to Jeongjeon, a place for memorial services. Jeondol's road indicates a moving line for God and king who are the main part of sacrificial rituals.
Third, in the section between main gate and Jaegung, the road of Jongmyo consists of a way looking long, far and a way looking narrow and dark through tree and land. On the other hand, the road that reaches from Jaegung to Jeongjeon is composed of light and wide space, so that the road implies getting nearer to a real space for memorial services.
