Abstract The classification work for defect repair request document in the construction field is unproductive. The classification work is very important to give orders to the contractors for repairing defects. Specialists(ex. construction manager) classify the request documents by construction contractors. And their knowledge and experience are the basis for making their decision. However, IT(Information Technology) can be substituted for specialists. As Expert-system, Neural-Network and Case-based Reasoning can be the decision making tool instead of specialists. Between these techniques, Case based Reasoning is superior to rest of the techniques in classifying data. Therefore, this study introduces the defect repair request document classification system using Case based Reasoning. The system conducted 1955 cases from a construction field which already finished pre-move-in inspection. The system's classified cases were compared to the specialist's and non-specialist's classified cases to obtain the accuracy and efficiency. The accuracy rate showed to 95.81% and it shortened the time for operation. The accuracy rate 95.81% shows the possibility of substitution proposed system for specialists.
