Abstract The plan analysis is made on 6 Japanese dementia units, in order to reveal their architectural features and trends.??Results unveiled that the use of double-corridor type plans is a tendency on the plan, and they are chosen to use the limited site effectively and to have many rooms.??This is a pattern of the sample units located in urban areas in Japan.??Small group living system, another trend of the sample units, is established on the units to increase home-like environments.??Entering natural sunshine on the double-corridor can be seen on the sample units having long corridors to overcome institutional image.??However, wandering pathways are no longer available in the sample units even through all sample units have had positive environments suitable for people with dementia.
