Abstract The smart office based on the ubiquitous technology must be designed to maximize user's working efficiency in a comfortable circumstance, increase the level of security on users, user information and office facilities, and achieve economic efficiency. Such human-centered technology and an intelligent environment, a physical space is perceptually enabled, that is capable of natural human interactions, and that provides both proactive and reactive services to a community of users. An smart office needs to control a wide range of physical devices : lights, audio/video equipment, telephone, handheld computers, etc. Additionally, that needs to control a significant number of software components : messaging system, personal file databases, schedule-keeping agents, video conference system and so on. This study analyzes environmental changes and characteristics of working spaces where ubiquitous technology is applied, based on the understanding of the components for each function of the existing working spaces and integration factors between physical and digital elements in an ubiquitous environment.
