| Abstract |
Gooseong-upseong,??one of the most important castles in the north-west province, was reconstructed in the early period of 1700s to strengthen defenses against Chi'ing invasions. Kwon-soon who was the county headman and well-known as a technical expert managed all that construction. Under his leadership, the large number of supervisors, labours and craftsmen worked at it. The more developed defensive facilities were newly equipped and in addition, the area of castle became broader. These renewal aspects of Gooseong-upseong seem to have been influenced by the innovative thinking about the defensive strategy and the castle's structure at that time. |
