Abstract |
The process of control design for structural dynamic systems having a large number of degrees of freedom often requires a size reduction prior to its simulation for the sake of convenience and economical reasons. Many model reduction techniques with various aspects have been proposed and applied. This paper studies the effects on topology and the fidelity of several model reduction techniques.??As a testbed, the 3-story SAC structure, used previously for a nonlinear seismic building benchmark problem (Ohtori et al, 2004), is reduced to various model orders.??The fidelity of the models are studied by examining key transfer functions and natural frequencies.??Particular focus is on explaining structured LMI model reduction and examining the reduced-order model it produces. It is shown that the LMI method enables more reasonable elimination of states while maintaining the original topology. |
