Abstract There has been a try in structural engineering to use glass in the same way as more traditional load bearing building material such as concrete, steel and timber for the background that great developments were made to raise the quality of glass through the floating process and increase the strength through heat treatment and lamination. Many researches on structural glass are actively under way around Europe. However, the present domestic status in field of structural glass shows lack of enthusiasm. This work was set about for the purpose of activating researches into glass. A brief introduction is given about the research cases on the structural glass in Europe. A second part deals with the evaluation of bending strength of H company's glass based on 4-point bending test about strong axis. A total of 600 specimens of three kinds of glass, such as annealed glass, heat strengthened glass and tempered glass, were tested. And then the allowable stress is evaluated with statistical analysis using the weibull probability density function.
