Abstract |
This study intends to investigate how visitors' movements are affected by the spatial structure of museum layout. In doing so, the relation between distribution of visitors from museum sites and Space Syntax values are analyzed. Here, the later values are gained from convex analysis and axial analysis. The results are as follows; 1) The distribution of visitors in the museum showed consistent correlation with convex integration, but not with convex connectivity. 2) The distribution of visitors exhibited high correlation with axial integration, but not with axial connectivity. These results testifies that the spatial structure of the museum does affect the movement of visitors. Their movements has more to do with the global spatial structure rather than the local ones. This study thus opens up the possibility that enhanced museum layouts can be generated based on the analyse and problem-solving process. Moreover, it can be suggested that the movement simulation in this manner can help the design process of museum in which high exposure of objects to visitors is the key factor for layout. |
