Abstract This study aims to investigate how ‘in situ’ concept of Daniel Buren, based on critical analysis of site, systematically developed through his main works after the end of 1960s that have close relationship with architecturalㆍurban space. Intervention of Daniel Buren is presented as ‘in situ’ work focused on the characteristics of site within connection with architecturalㆍurban variables while expanding to walls of gallery, various architectural factors of museum or museum building itself, and further public space. The characteristics of his ‘in situ’ works that intervened works exist as spaces consisting of serial factors not individual objects, and they suggest ‘site is a work’. His ‘in situ’ work making another site by being melted into the context of site where the work is positioned is connected to architectural work integrating spectator's viewpoint, movement and perception into a work by expanding to visual, plastic and spatial field exceeding the limit of painting and sculpture. Buren suggests a new interpretation and viewpoint about ‘watching method (La facon de voir)’ for objects and space, architecture and city through his serial ‘in situ’ works.
