Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to define housing needs of residents for digital homes, the advanced homes that embed digital facilities such as sensor infrastructure, networking systems, and ubiquitous displays. Housing needs for digital homes are measured by housing lifestyle scales that include the attitude towards digital living patterns and that of room layouts adapting digital home service and the requirements for digital home services. The subjects were 200 non-employed wives (A-group) and 200 employed wives (B-group) who live in Busan. The findings are as follows. (1) The wives' employment had an effect on household characteristics such as husbands' and wives' age, their education and household income. It is considered primary factors that diversify housing needs. (2) Five factors each from the attitude towards living patterns and that of room layouts were extracted. (3) Four types of housing lifestyles in each group were categorized through ten factors. (4) The residents' housing needs for digital home were identified based on the types of housing lifestyle and the requirements for digital home services; "digital cooking-laundry space type," "open public space type," "digital well-being space type," and "passive family room & parlor type," in the A-group; and "digital private space type," "digital extended public space type," "digital public space type," and "digital family room & parlor type" in the B-group. |
