Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is to establish the base of the methodology of urban design workshop by the evaluation of the process and the visualization techniques through analysis of cases. The process of workshop divided into the decision of theme and area, case study and special lecture, sight the area and survey the situation, the arrangement of the problems and tasks follow the themes, an interim report, construction of an alternative plan and announcement and the evaluation. In this process, a critical mind to the theme, the establishment of survey methods, discussions and considerations for alternative plan, questions and answers with experts, residents, and local government officials were very effective not only for on the job training, but also for the ability of discussions which will be require in workshop with the residents. Therefore the educational effects of the workshop and the assignments of each stage were arranged. As for the visualization techniques, the characteristic and limitations of photo- manipulation, GIS, telecast facade model, sketch and computer graphic were deduced. Photo-manipulation was estimated to be the most effective visualization technique for the analysis of the present condition and proposition comparison with the present condition. GIS was available for grasping the problems and potentiality of the present situations, while telecast facade model was useful for the agreement of participations, sketch was good for the expression of ideas and the comparative estimate of alternative plans. Due to the time limitation of the workshop, despite the many merits of computer graphic, it was not used in an efficient manner. This paper was completed by the analysis of the record of discussion in preparatory stage, video tapes taken during the workshop period, the displayed panels, and final reports. |
