Abstract The flexural behavior of inverted T-shaped Composite Basement Wall(CBW) under lateral earth load is studied in this paper. In Composit Basement Wall System(CBS), R/C basement wall is combined with H-Pile and resists lateral soil pressure together. From the previous experimental result performed to evaluate the structural behavior of CBW by us, it was found that there were four types of failure mechanisms such as hanger failure, punching shear failure, flexural failure and the buckling of H-pile.
In this study, it is purposed to evaluate the structural behavior of CBW by analyzing failure mechanism and to propose the method for predicting flexural strength. For this, suitable equations related to failure mechanism are suggested and the calculated strengths are compared each other. On the comparing, the failure mechanism having the lowest value of strength is to be governing one. It was found that the failure mechanism and ultimate strength were effectively predicted using the proposed method.
