Abstract The purpose of this study was to classify the structural type of traditional wooden frame from a structural point of view. In traditional wooden structure, Kongpoes are located between roof and frame and the role of Kongpoes are very important in the flow of force. However, in this study, the types of Kongpo are not considered as variable. Kongpo is considered as connection point only. The type classification for traditional wooden frame was considered the pattern of moment for beam mainly.
Traditional wooden frame was divided into three basic types and some derived forms. Three basic types are one point loading method, two points loading method and two points loading-reaction method. In one point loading method, the number of loading point is just one. the numbers of loading point are two in two points loading method. In the case of two points loading-reaction method, the numbers of loading point are two and the number of reaction point is one. The other forms of basic type were derived by additional beam and so on. For this research, the wooden structures of national treasures and treasures were investigated.
The each percentages of one point loading method, two point loading method, two point loading-reaction method were 17.0%, 50.8%, 32.2%. In this study, the main variables of type classification were the numbers of loading point and reaction point for beam. However, it is needed the application of additional variables to more accurate type classification and going to research.
