Abstract |
Because there are highly potential shear failure in reinforced concrete deep beams with web openings, it is important to find suitable procedures for strengthening or repairing such members. In this study, externally strengthening method by wire rope with bolt in deep beams failed in shear is proposed. Nine continuous deep beams with openings were tested to failure, repaired, strengthened, and then retested to failure for a second time. Test results indicated that the ultimate strength, the control of critical diagonal cracks, and loading distribution of externally strengthened deep beams matched up to those of the original undamaged beams. The wire rope used as externally strengthening material acted as external stirrups and the load-carrying capacity could be evaluated by truss model. |
