Abstract Normally, subway station is related to a underground shopping mall that is developed as complex spaces. As it took a long time that people were staying in the underground space, the necessity of safety countermeasure of this underground space has been enlarged. Consequently, the efforts to minimize the damage of human life and property from similar underground fire occurrence or disaster becomes important. In this research, it was analyzed the survivor's and savior's behavior pattern and the way of evacuation from the Daegu subway fire disaster on Feb. 18. 2003, in which 192 people were killed and 148 injured. It was investigated survivors of the Daegu subway fire and analyzed the factors of human behavior and evacuation in the underground space fire. And it was investigated savior's route when savior saved survivors.
As a result of research, greater part of the interruption to escape and to save is the loss of the direction to escape. It needs to install with suitable guidance devices according to the accident. And the devices that helps the saviors are light and sound. The device should be equipped with not only visual indication but also with tangible and audible. The emergency in underground space is complicated and peculiar. Because underground space is the place where people and smoke evacuated at the same time. Therefore saviors search various savior routes. And the fire fighers and saviors need communication utility each other.
