This study is a basic study for the understanding of patterns that compose a space and their theoretical evidences. The influence of patterns on the psychological evaluation of spaces was analyzed by evaluating and observing the human responses to the geographical elements of the patters that can be quantitatively studied in order to derive the basic data for the use of architectural designs. This study was divided into four steps. The first step selected the criteria that can be applied to the evaluation of patterns and their psychological impact. The second step synthesized an evaluation object with the elements of patterns inserted as variables. The third step implemented the evaluation and the fourth step ran a statistical analysis for the evaluation data to analyze the human responses to the patterns. The following lists the results from the study : 1) The factors that contribute to the influence were summarized into three axes - 『activity』, 『warmth』, and 『density』 - and the axis of 『activity』 showed the highest contribution. 2) In result of observing the factor acquisition plot, the patterns were most complex when they were in triangular or curvilinear shapes and took irregular or diagonal arrangements and were most simple when they were in circular or linear and took rectangular or horizontal arrangements. They were also perceived to be widely apart when the size of pattern is large and the interval is wide, and to be concentrated when the size is small and the interval is close. The color distribution is cool in B or G class and warm in R class. 3) The analysis of the shapes of patterns revealed that the image of 「simple」, which acquired the highest contribution among the adjectives in the axis of 『activity』, could be achieved when the patterns are large, spaciously placed, linear, and in 5R 5/6. Also, the image of 「warm」 in the axis of 『warmth』 could be achieved when the patterns are small, closely placed, curvilinear, and in 5R 5/6. Last, the image of 「tight」 in axis of 『density』 could be achieved when the patterns are small, closely spaced, linear, and in 5B 5/6. 4) The analysis of the arrangements of patterns indicated that the image of 「simple」, which acquired the highest contribution among the adjectives in the axis of 『activity』, could be achieved when the patterns are large, spaciously placed, rectangular, and in 5B 5/6, and the image of 「warm」 in the axis of 『warmth』 could be achieved when the patterns are small, closely placed, horizontal, and in 5R 5/6. Last, the image of 「tight」 in axis of 『density』 could be achieved when the patterns are small, closely spaced, triangular, and in 5B 5/6. |
