Abstract The behavior of unstiffened steel-plate shear panels using mild steel (SS400) was investigated through experimental and analytical study. The test results are represented that the strength of the steel-plate shear panels is decided by the post-buckling strength of infilled panels because the steel-plate shear panels buckle at low load.
The National Standard on Limit States Design of Steel Structures, CAN/CSA-S16-01 contains a guideline for the analysis of thin unstiffened steel-plate shear walls using strip model. The analysis of steel-plate shear panels based on the experimental results was conducted using strip model analysis to verify whether CAN/CSA-S16.1-94 can be applied to steel-plate shear panels. As a result, the initial stiffness of steel-plate shear panels is made an accurate estimate, but the ultimate strength is underestimated.
