The purpose of this study is to build up the foundation of design approach reflecting not only designers' value in designing apartment housing but also residents' value or needs. 7 categories of design elements including 60 individual design elements were drawn through the review of relevant literature, and both designer group and resident group were asked to evaluate the perceived importance of each design elements in designing or selecting apartment. And residents' satisfaction on each design elements in their current housing were also measured. The results revealed the gap in perceived importance of design elements between resident group and designer group. A satisfaction on some of the design elements were found to be low while the perceived importance were evaluated relatively high, and it implies the need of more deliberate consideration on those elements in designing the apartment housing. |
