Abstract The purpose of this study is to realize the characteristics of the spatial composition elements disposition in traditional villages by space syntax. According to the result that compared and analyzed the correlation between Integration and Connectivity coefficient, it shows that the whole villages almost indicated the lower Intelligibility when strangers visited these places and those villages were formed as the structure for protecting inhabitants.
The facility pattern shows that the residence used by socially higher class and the public facility were distributed in the higher Integration and Connectivity, and those facilities were formed in the places where access and passage were rather easier in terms of the whole space of a village. For that reason, the inhabitants could easily identify strangers and naturally made contact with them, keeping watch on them. This means that the social significance as a facility could be reflected on the spatial hierarchy. Today the symbolic significance of the ancient residence used by higher class are replaced in its function with a social gathering place as a modern public facility. And also its meaning is preserved in its role as an important social facility. However the Confucian facility is directly connected with the integrated space in the village, or is placed in the segregated space, which means the Confucian facility is distributed widely and that doesn't indicate a special pattern on the graph.
