Abstract |
This study was to investigate the architectural quality of Jae-sa in Jeon-buk Province. I studied the buildings used for clan memorial services built in the Jae-sa. To gain a broader research base I clarified local characteristic through the comparison of different area Jae-sa architecture. I examined the ancestrial relation of the architectural form and space through analysis of sacrificial rituals and formality. In this study I took into account the changes in the role of the Jae-sa as a place of execution for various clan activities and facility. This study included examining construction background and historical data related to Jae-sa including a genealogical table and old documents. Also, elements which describe the architectural form and space of the Jae-sa were studied. Jae-sa is a place of purification for ancestral rites held before the grave and is a place to perform rituals during rainfall. The form of the ceremony was established in the Chos?n Dynasty period. In this process, Jae-sa Architecture was widely erected together with clan activity. Jae-sa has a fundamental type and an expansion type, 4-building courtyard type disposition format. There is similarly in appearance with the form of private houses in the area. |
