Abstract Advanced in structural materials and construction methods have resulted in flexible and light tall building. Therefore, the assessment of structural safety and service performance of a tall building during strongwind is an important design criteria. Pressure fluctuation on the structure of a building are influenced by approaching atmospheric turbulence flow, flow separation, flow reattachment and vortex shedding in the wake. In this paper to investigate the taper effect for reducing pressure fluctuations of a tapered tall building, pressure tests were carried out using four types of pressure building models which have different taper ratio of 5%, 10%, 15% and one basic model of a square cross-section under the two typical boundary layer representing suburban(BL1) and urban(BL2) flow with the wind direction of 0 degree condition. The analysis of pressure were conducted with pressure coefficient, power spectral density and autocorrelation.
