Abstract This paper deals with the controller design to drive a shaking table with one's intended motion, and also system identification of a building model, which is mounted on a shaking table. Reference signal, by which the shaking table is driven, differs from its response in amplitude and phase. Therefore, for driving the shaking table in accordance with its reference signal, there is a need for the dynamic characteristic between the reference signal and the shaking table to be cancelled. To cancel this dynamic characteristic of the shaking table, the controller using its inverse transfer function is designed. Also, the stiffness and damping coefficients of the building model are identified with acceleration data, which are measured from accelerometers attached at the shaking table and each story of the building model.
