Abstract |
The present Gukrakjun in Bulguksa was rebuilt in the late Chosun style of 18th Century on the stone bases of Unified Shilla which had been distributed originally to support the upper wooden structure of a quite different style in 8th Century. Thus, the present wooden structure of Gukrakjun dose not neatly fit on its stone base down below. Compared with contemporary counterparts of Chinese and Japanese wooden structures, the plan type of Gukrakjun is very unique in its compact 3×3 bay composition and it's double size central bay. This research aims to conjecture the original wooden structure of Gukrakjun in Bulguksa and also to represent a 3D-computer modeling. This research involves multidisciplinary approach, calling on Korean traditional wooden architecture, historical knowledge about Japanese and Chinese ancient wooden architecture as well as computer modeling techniques. In this case, CATIA software was selected due to its versatile three-dimensional shape modeling capability. This research will propose a most convincing reconstruction model of Gukrakjun in Bulguksa. |
