Abstract |
Structural optimization is a sequential and mathematical technique in order to archive an optimum of structure satisfying objective function and optimization constraints. It can yield an optimal topology, shape or size of members as optimal solutions. Especially topology optimization utilizes design variables of constant element densities and yields optimal topology, i.e. optimal distributions of material densities between voids(0) and solids(1) in design domain. It means that regions with densities in design domain become occupied by solids but there are only voids in regions where no densities exist. Therefore the void regions in topology optimization results provide design information for the purpose of appropriate deposition of web-opening in structure. Contrary to the basic objective of topology optimization technique which has been used to obtain optimal topology of structures, the present study proposes that topology optimization can be also utilized for decision of proper web-opening's position. Numerical examples of linear elastostatic structures demonstrate efficiency of methodological design processes of topology optimization to determinate the proper depositions of web-opening. |
