Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concretes. The main variables investigated are a different type of recycled aggregate which has recycled gravel of grade I and grade III and recycled fine aggregate of grade II, and the replacement level of the recycled aggregate. Specimens are classified into two groups, one of which is to evaluate the compressive strength with age, split tensile strength, flexural strength and elastic modulus, and the other is to measure the relation between bond and slippage, and pure shear behavior. Test results show that the tensile and flexural strength and elastic modulus of the recycled aggregate concrete relative to those of normal concrete decrease with increase of the replacement level of their recycled aggregates. These decrease slopes in concrete using recycled fine aggregates are more prominent than in concrete using recycled gravels. Also, larger slippage of reinforcement and lower initial shear stiffness is appeared in recycled aggregate concrete than those in normal concrete, regardless of a type of recycled aggregate. |
