Abstract The purpose of this study is to propose the support system of Open Housing which can be substituted for bearing wall system in order to improve the flexibility of apartment housing in Korea. As the optimal support system for realizing the open housing at this present time, I recommend the Flat Plate Slab System which is able to support structure without bearing wall, beam and girder. In korea, bearing wall system has been the major structural system of apartment housing. But bearing wall system is not able to follow the speed of life style change in these days, so it has to be replaced by Open Housing with flat plate slab structure system. Open housing system has many merits which are discussed in this thesis.
The result of this study is as follows :
1. It is possible to realize the variable plan for life style changes in apartment housing.
2. The noise between the floor can be reduced due to the feature of flat plate slab system.
3. It can be easy to apply the mechanical system such as sprinklers and ventilation equipments in housing
4. The cost of constructing apartment housing can be lower with flat plate slab system in comparison with bearing wall system
Flat Plate Slab System is the optimal support type of Open Housing in apartment housing in Korea.
