Abstract Many Japanese people had advanced into Youngsanpo(the case study considered here) since they opened the Mokpo port in 1897. Japanese inhabited near the river side of Youngsanpo. From 1910, planned-street-network was constructed and developed gradually in Japanese urban district. Modern building district of Youngsanpo as cultural heritage is a value of preservation and application which is not designated at cultural property.
This paper is intended as an investigation of the application and conservation in the modern building district at Youngsanpo. Based on field survey in 2004 and registration for buildings, this study analyzed change of urban street and plot transition since 1915. We analyzed also actual conditions of the modern building district and characteristics of buildings.
