Abstract |
Many steel moment resisting frames suffered damage at beam-to-column connections under the Northridge and Kobe Earthquakes. After these earthquakes, valuable experimental programs on beam-to-column connections have been developed in the US and Japan. Nevertheless, in these studies, little attention has been paid to repairing the connections. To solve above problem, new type connection with slit type plate was developed and tested, which could realize not only good seismic performance but also easy repair after a heavy earthquake. From the test results, new type connection was shown a good seismic performance. In addition, damages caused by heavy earthquakes were concentrated to energy absorption elements, in other words, slit type plate, so that main members would be re-used and damaged part would be easy to repair. |
