Abstract This paper is to evaluate the ultimate strength and plastic deformation capacity of SM570TMC square hollow section column and H-shape column subjected to axial force and bending moment. Experiments were carried out using full scale 15 specimens. Main parameters were shape of section, slenderness ratios, ratios of axial load and whether it had weld joint or not. Behavior of each specimen is displayed in the form of moment-curvature(M-φ) relationship. The experimental results showed that the ultimate strength satisfied both ASD and LRFD specifications.
