Abstract This study is aimed to analyze the mental capacity of the pedestrians on the streetscape in view of the environmental recognition and to explain the correlation between the streetscape elements and the visual preference. For this attempt, the first part of this paper is devoted to review the elements on the streetscape in the reference texts and to structure the streetscape elements of the urban, street, architectural scales. The second part is extracted preference-type and influence of primary factor according to the wideness and narrowness of street. Urban design application must be changed for urban streetscape component according to street width. Specially, it was analyzed that wide street have influence on visual preference according to sidewalk width more than design element and street width of architectural scale. It is the most preferable streetscape that the method of street composition has division in orderly and they appear the continuous collective figure. On the other hand, it is not preferable that there are low building standing in a row or middle story buildings forming the fixed distance are not suitable to next buildings.
