Abstract This study aims to show the most economical and reliable method to obtain the simulation results, using the ESP-r, when we model the building with round or similar shapes.
For this purpose, we assumed a half-round shaped building and selected the reference model with a 10 degrees central angle because this model is a lot similar to the real building. Then we analyzed simulation results on the comparative thermal performances. Also we compared and analyzed these results obtained from four different methods of approach.
In the case of the modelling method of a central angle division, this angle had to be divided into less than 20 degrees, namely this method had to have more than 9 surfaces. But the modelling method of an X-axis division was able to obtain the reliable results less than 2 % compared with the reference model, so this method was the most reasonable method and had only 7 surfaces. The other methods, using rectangular or trapezoid, with the same volume as the real building had very irregular patterns.
Consequently, the modelling method of an X-axis division is able to obtain the most correct and reliable results with the minimum of time and labor.
