Abstract The purpose of this study is to efficiently treat municipal solid waste incinerator fly ash(MWFA) and to evaluate the feasibility of artificial aggregate using MWFA. Non-sintered lightweight aggregate from MWFA is experimentally manufactured with various mass ratios of MWFA to inorganic binder by a centrifugal rotary mixer at normal temperature of 20℃, and is tested for density, water absorption, abrasion loss, crushing value, impact value and heavy metal leaching. Their physical properties are compared to those of a crushed stone. The test results indicated that qualities of the artificial aggregates manufactured at the normal temperature are suitable and fairly comparable to those of conventional artificial lightweight aggregates. Because no toxic heavy metals are detected from the tested aggregate, it could be used as an environment-conscious artificial lightweight aggregate.
