Abstract |
This study suggests new ways of establishing walking trails considering the morphological patterns of streets and the movement patterns of pedestrians in Buk-chon, Seoul. Based on this new methodology, historic trails in the traditional housing area were suggested. For this, the Space Syntax Theory that is so useful in analyzing and comprehending space configuration, was used to make a spatial network model. With the results of the model, first of all space syntactic properties were analyzed and the main posts of the historic trails were established, in coherence to the urban contexts. Secondly, the preliminary paths of historical trails were established to reflect local spatial properties detected by the values of local integration. Finally, the historical trails were established by analyzing the degree of recognition on cultural relics and the spatial intelligibility of streets. The new trails made from this study, considering morphological patterns of streets and the movement patterns of visitors, is not only more comfortable for the visitor to travel around the relics, but expected to help the visitor to understand the spatial structure of the traditional housing area. |
