Abstract |
Traditional urban housing in Korea represents how traditional housing evolved into modern urban housing concepts through the modernization period. Due to the major shift in population from rural to cities more housing became in need, however their limited territories made it inevitable for people to adapt and modify the traditional way of life. In other words urban traditional housing symbolizes the contradictory desire of people towards traditional living style and modernization, history of its evolution. The current study examines and attempts renovation processes of traditional urban housing for elderly in the north district of Seoul in order to meet present and future needs. This maybe just one example of individual preservation, however by extending the concept into a broader scope it is hoped to contribute in connecting historical and social context of the city. |
