Abstract It is one of among the greatest important characteristics in the Korean traditional architecture that the house for only men (斜廊, Sarang-che) had separated from family space. But there is a little study on the time of its separation and on assuming the native form to Korea of a house of nobility in 16th century through what process had gone.
The living culture of greeting guest have naturally been formed through the established life, and seems to be made the rules of Sarang-che(斜廊) up to Chosun dynasty(A.D.1392-1910) which had a very rigid social hierarchy in their society with clear distinction of man from woman.
In this context, after accepting Sung Confucianism(性理學), Guest Space with Ru(樓)?Jeong(亭)?Dang(堂) in Goryeo period(A.D.918-1392) may have direct connection with a house of nobility in Chosun dynasty.
Therefore, this thesis is a study precedent to understand the change of its story that Sarang-che in Chosun dynasty had been taking charge of a religious service and guest house, and thus brings to a focus of what was the living house for only men in Goryeo period.
