Abstract |
Eco-School is much more then an environmental management system for school. It is a programme for promoting environmental awareness in such a way that links to many curriculum subjects, including citizenship, and personal, social and health education, and education for sustainable development. The Eco-School process is holistic. It works by involving the whole school - student, teachers, non-teaching staff and governors - together with members of the local community - parents, the local authority, the media and local businesses. The major concept of the Eco-school plan is to understand that the school consists of an ecosystem, so the design concept should focus on minimising impact but at the same time maintaining close contact with the environment. This is becoming the basic concept in applying the Eco-school design to the new 21st century school building. This paper is an analysis on the methods of application, based on careful examination of case-studies from the U.S.A about detailed Eco-school plan element and design method, through the following five aspects ; (1) site , (2) energy, (3) water , (4) materials and recycling of resources, (5) indoor environment. |
