Abstract The purpose of this study is show how Japanese architects' negative attitude to the Ondol(Korean traditional heating system)' changed to positive one, and the influences of that change. In the early years of 1920's, the Japanese architects and engineers criticized the Ondol and prefer new or traditional heating systems of western countries. Nevertheless, the Japanese resident in Korea had been using Ondol habitually, the attitude to Ondol changed to favorable manner. This change was accompanied by emerging of commercial models of improved Ondol. Academic or theoretical studies on Ondol as like ideal house projects with Ondol and Historical and mechanical surveys of Ondol were achieved by Korean and Japanese architects and engineers.
