Abstract A method proposed to estimate required length of double-layered flexural reinforcing bars for RC beam. This research deals with deep beams, in which shear reaction is dominant and no plastic hinge is formed. The ACI and AIJ guidelines(Architectural Institute of Japan) present a method to determine the length double-layered bars, typically foundation beams, although theoretical and experimental bases are not described.
A series of experimental work was conducted to measure the bond strength of double-layered bars. The method to estimate the double-layered length and shear strength of short shear span ratio beam are then developed based on a concept of partial truss mechanism.
