Abstract |
This paper deals with the flexural strengthening effect of RC beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheets which is the most commonly used in strengthening materials. Test parameters in this experimental study are strengthened length of carbon fiber sheets (100%-2580㎜, 70%-1790㎜), strengthening methods (B type, U type), the number of carbon fiber sheets (1ply, 2ply) and end restrainted by U type strip (0, 0.5D, 1.0D) of C.F.S. Based on this test results, it is shown that the increase of strength ranged from 22.36% to 67.67% over the strength of control beam. It is also found that the flexural capacity of RC beams strengthened by 100% bond length is almost similar to that of RC beams strengthened by 70% bond length. Additionally, experimental results are compared with theoretical equations available in the literatures and good agreement is observed. |
