Abstract |
This research is aimed to explore a new architectural design process based on realism developed and explored by M.M Bakhtin. To achieve the aim, this research is focused on Bakhtin's Chronotope(time-space in novel) to contrive an architectural operation based on his literary theories and philosophical background. The difference between Russian formalism and Bakhtin's realism in linguistics and literary approach can be narrowed down as Act, Utterance, and Dialogism. In order to interpret an literary form-based frame as an architectural operation, structural elements in both narrative realms are analyzed with the referential research of the relation formed in Russian formalism and constructivism. Then they are analyzed in terms of Einstein's space time with related architectural works. As a result, Chronotope would be interpreted as a Metonymical narrative figure as in Russian realism novel, Gathering of individual fields of time-space, which are embodied by act, utterance, dialogism with indispensible relation to others as in Hejduk's projects / Josef Albers' Structural Constellation, and become fields of variables or sum of vectors as in Lebbeus Woods' "Storm". |
