| Abstract |
This paper deals with the organization and staff of the architectural bureau attached to Chosun Governor-General. Especially focused on Korean staff, we researched the historical background and activities based on architect and accounting archives of National Archives & Record Service(NARS) recorded between 1926 and 1941. The Chosun Governor-General adopted flexible personnel management system and typically bureaucratic system where engineers are managed by high-ranking officials who had graduated from the University of Tokyo. Korean engineers' activities were confined in bureaucratic organization, but after Korean liberation in 1945, they played a pivotal role in the nation's modern architecture. |
