Abstract The load bearing capacity of laminated glass beam does not only depend on the strength of the material, but also on the lateral torsional buckling load. The viscoelastic nature of PVB(Polyvinyl Butyral) interlayer is an important factor in determining the lateral torsional buckling load of laminated glass beam. The shear rigidity of PVB depends mainly on load duration and temperature. This study describes the evaluation on lateral torsional buckling load of laminated glass beam which acts as a laminated composite at room temperature. To estimate the critical moment of laminated glass beam, the tests were carried out on specimens with triple-laminated glass. The glass beams of different sorts(tempered and heat strengthened), different cross sections(10×300, 10×350, 12×300, 12mm×350mm), and a constant length of 3.7m were tested in a four-point bending test. And then the bending stiffness about weak axis is determined by the bending test and the torsional stiffness is calculated by the FE analysis. Finally, the results show that there is no difference of the lateral torsional buckling load between the two glasses and there is good correspondence of critical moment between the test and the analysis under the assumption of 0.01N/mm2 for PVB foil's shear modulus.
