Abstract In this study, reinforced concrete frames with concrete block infill for school buildings in Korea, where concrete block infills are typically unreinforced, are experimentally and analytically investigated to develop pre- and post-earthquake seismic evaluation method. In the tests, full-scale, single-story, one-bay specimens having different axial loads are tested under cyclic loading, and the contribution of walls to overall behaviors and crack patterns and widths in columns and walls which may be of great significance for post-event assessment are carefully observed. In this paper, outlines of experiment are briefly described, and failure mechanism and lateral strength-deformation relation of overall frame using axial stress and shear stress of concrete block infills are discussed.
