Abstract The objective of this study is to suggest the inputs of construction materials per unit output of construction investment or building permit area(㎡), and to analyze the input structure of construction materials based on statistics such as the consumption of construction materials, the amount of construction investment, and input-output tables published by the bank of Korea. The input units are very useful to analyze the long-term structural change in consuming construction materials and to forecast roughly the demand of construction materials in devising a large-scale development plan.
Input unit of the major construction materials for structural frame such as steel bar, ready-mixed concrete, and aggregate have increased around 10%, the reason is because earthquake-proof structural designs have been disseminated as well as underground parking spaces have been popularized in constructing apartment houses. Inputs of tile and toilet stool have increased, the reason is because the floor plan that adopts two bathrooms in a house has been popularized and demand for remodeling housing has increased dramatically. However, input of cement has decreased, the reason is because replaceable materials for cement such as fly ash or blast furnace slag have been widely used since 2000 and will be diffused for the present. Input of plywood has been decreased owing to popularizing systemized sheathing boards made of steel or plastic as well as the input of hume pipe has declined owing to decreasing drainage works. Finally, input of construction materials per 1 billion won (2000 constant price) of construction investment were estimated at 455 tons of cement, 91 tons of steel bar, 1,160㎥ of ready-mixed concrete, 2,072㎥ of aggregate, 28.4 tons of H-beam. Moreover, input of construction materials per 1 thousand ㎡ of building permit area were estimated at 217 tons of cement, 54 tons of steel bar, 609㎥ of ready-mixed concrete, 17 tons of H-beam, and so forth.
