Abstract This study is architecturally considered and compared about how to adapt and confront to climatic environment of Jeju Island and Okinawa on vernacular house formation.As Jeju Island and Okinawa are regions where oceanic climate is clear, the climatic setting is a primary factor in a form of residence. Therefore, the equipment for overcoming all difficulties in climate environment is supposed to be prepared more thoroughly than any other regions. Moreover, Jeju Island and Okinawa are backward in the cultural contact with the mainland of each country because of the geographical characteristic called frontier islands which are separated with their mainlands. For the reasons, naturally bad condition is supposed to be a decisive influence on architectural form.The purpose of this study is seek to the architectural similarity and identical characteristics of the influenced on the wind and rain factors on the vernacular houses in Jeju and Okinawa.
