Abstract |
In recent years, new types of ailments such as "Sick House Syndrome" and "Multi Chemical Sensitivity" have made people realized the increasing danger of pollutants and in particular, the effect on students who stay in the school for more than eight hours. In spite of such potentially harmful background, there are hardly any researches on the effect of pollution in a school and consequently, it is difficult to correctly estimate how the pollution affects school students. There are many problems to resolve in regard to the air quality management, but to supply appropriate air quality standard, Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) evaluation that takes account of classroom dimension and natural ventilation must take place. In this paper, we targeted H-Elementary School and measured Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) and Formaldehyde(HCHO) results based on the official test method of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ). Based on the results, we had set up CFD simulation and analyzed the movement of pollutants and indoor air quality level in accordance with the changing of openings. The result shows that when the lower part of opening is opened, natural ventilation effect is relatively high; nevertheless, it requires mechanical ventilation system for overall ventilation in classroom is poor. |
