Abstract The progressive collapse-resisting capacity of steel moment resisting frames designed by KBC2005 was investigated using a nonlinear dynamic analysis procedure suggested in the guidelines. The frames were designed and analyzed using several parameters such as number of story, structural system, and location of column removal. The results showed that the frames with the same plan shape are susceptible to progressive collapse as the number of story decreases and the location of the removed column moves from inside to outside. Also, frames designed only for gravity load turned out to be more vulnerable to the progressive collapse than those designed for earthquake load. However both systems did not show large difference in the resistance for progressive collapse because the design seismic load is not high enough.
