Abstract In the 1970s, Korea experienced a quantitative increase in apartments. As time goes by, the apartments become old and outdated functionally. While business on reconstruction of apartments goes on briskly in the late 1990s, it is found that it causes environmental disruption and wasteful resources and it is deemed a social problem. As one of solutions for those issues, the discussion on remodeling of existing old buildings has been put forward. Until now, studies on remodeling have been performed but, it is insufficient for planning a parking lot extension. There are few cases of reconstruction and remodeling allocating additional parking lot in international and domestic researches. The higher income goes up, the more and the bigger vehicles the households purchase. Absolutely, parking space is required now more than ever before. Development of technology and design on parking lot extension in old apartment complexes is vastly demanded and skills and knowledge will be applicable for remodeling many other commercial and residential complexes. This study would shed some lights on planning a parking lot extension and building a construction policy through substantiating parking spaces and applying them to actual complexes in advance to develop other technology required in reconstruction.
